Owen Masterson
ARTIST - PHOTOGRAPHER - FILMMAKER - AUTHOR
Owen was born in Brooklyn, raised on Staten Island, and went to high school in Manhattan. He acquired his first camera, a Nikon knock-off from his father when he was eleven. Owen fell in love with f/2.8 and black and white film, however he also loved playing the drums- that was before, "I realized that singing and slinging a guitar was where the action was," he has said.
In his teens and 20s he banged around in rock, punk, and new wave bands in NY, LA, SF; released a couple of records, went on the road, partook of the debauchery and madness.
Owen drifted into writing, modeling, acting, and "married the best looking gal in the room, who, it turned out, was also the smartest," he said. Christine brought him back to photography.
They've been shooting together successfully since the year 2000, including a side trip to make two award-winning documentary films, including a couple of EMMYS®.
"Through it all, the one constant has been my art."
"Painting thrills me. It is alive with random possibilities and moments of serendipitous wonder. Painting propels me to explore beyond the frame, to create new ways to see, affording the opportunity for deeper explorations that flow beyond the paintings's edge."
